Fifty students from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI) contributed their time and organisational skills to the success of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Car-Free Day Programme 2026 at Tasik Tambahan Recreation Park.
Held in conjunction with MPAJ’s World Environment Day celebration on 14 June, the programme brought together students, local residents and government agencies to promote environmental sustainability, low-carbon mobility and healthier lifestyles.

The event was officiated by YM Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz, Senior Political Adviser to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Also present were MPAJ Deputy President Ts. Haji Hasrolnizam Shaari; Ampang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid; Hospital Ampang Director-General Dr. Kasuadi Hussin; UniKL representative Ts. Jupry Hamzah; as well as MPAJ council members, department heads, officers and staff.
UniKL MIDI played an active role in supporting the programme, with its 50 student volunteers assigned to various operational and activity stations throughout the venue.

The programme featured the Ampang Kitar Race 2026, football and sepak takraw tournaments, a chess competition, a colouring contest, sports activities for persons with disabilities and traditional games.
A group of 20 students assisted with flag-off duties and stage operations for the CPR Save A Life initiative and Fun Walk. Two teams of 10 students managed the traditional games and chess competitions, while four volunteers supported the Eco-Friendly Garden Decoration Competition. The remaining students assisted with other activities and logistical arrangements.

Their involvement reflected UniKL’s emphasis on experiential learning, volunteerism and university-community engagement.
It also provided the students with practical exposure to event coordination, teamwork and public engagement while contributing to a local sustainability initiative.
The event also marked the launch of the MPAJ My Kasih Programme, which provides nutritious breakfast meals to schoolchildren, and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council Community Garden Competition 2026.
