The best projects honoured during the annual Made in MIMET (MIM) showcase initiatives advancing maritime sustainability, positioning Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET) as a strong advocate for innovative, industry-relevant solutions.
At the Diploma level, Nur Atiqah Amral, a student of the Diploma in Engineering Technology (Marine Engineering), developed a project titled Develop Oil Water Separator for Teaching Aids.
Winning the Best Project award, this initiative demonstrates practical value by transforming a complex marine pollution control system into a functional, durable, and classroom-friendly teaching model.
It enhances students’ understanding of oily water separation and compliance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
Meanwhile, at the bachelor’s degree level, Development of Thermoelectric Module Prototype for Ship Engine Cooling System by Nur Amirah Mohd Saffian showcases advanced research by converting waste heat from marine engines into useful electrical energy.

The project highlights strong analytical skills, innovation, and potential contributions to energy efficiency on board ships, which is an important aspect of sustainable maritime operations.
Next steps for both projects include prototype refinement, performance optimisation, real-world validation, digital enhancement through sensors or monitoring modules, and potential integration into UniKL MIMET’s long-term teaching and research ecosystem.
With further development and industry collaboration, these award-winning projects hold significant potential for commercialisation, research publication, and adoption as official instructional tools.

The highly anticipated annual event gathered over 200 students, lecturers, and industry representatives for a day of innovation, collaboration, and industrial relevance.
A total of 19 final-year projects from both bachelor’s degree and diploma programmes received gold awards during the closing ceremony held on 4 December 2025. These projects reflect UniKL MIMET’s increasing focus on research that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities.

Dean of UniKL MIMET, Ts. Dr. Zaimi Zainal Mokhtar, praised the collaborative efforts across departments, particularly the contribution of the Research & Innovation Section, and reaffirmed the importance of such platforms in nurturing innovative, industry-ready graduates.
“Events like this spark creativity, strengthen professionalism, and prepare our students to lead the future of the maritime industry,” he said.
