Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has marked a bold step in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation with the official unveiling of KAiLA, its groundbreaking virtual AI robot, during the strategic partnership exchange ceremony with Viztech Sdn Bhd and Byteplus.
Serving as the virtual icon for the Centre for Knowledge Artificial Intelligence, Learning & Automation (UniKL KAiLA) at the UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT), KAiLA represents more than just a machine.
It embodies UniKL’s vision of human-centred AI.

KAiLA is the result of a successful collaboration between UniKL and its talented alumnus, Muhammad Hanis Ahmad Fauzi, a graduate of the Bachelor of Multimedia Technology (Hons.) in Computer Animation, who designed KAiLA’s stunning 3D model.
Unlike typical generative AI platforms, KAiLA was developed entirely in-house as a 3D model and powered with advanced technology from Viztech.
Designed as a female robot figure, KAiLA’s character draws inspiration from Iron Man, while incorporating UniKL’s distinctive corporate branding colours to give it a unique identity.

Far beyond aesthetics, KAiLA functions as a digital assistant that supports users in multiple dimensions, including providing emotional companionship, assisting with daily task management and offering personalised guidance that adapts to the user’s behaviour, preferences, and needs.
This innovation is a testament to UniKL’s strong commitment to digital transformation and future-ready education, aligning with the World Economic Forum’s forecast of a 60 percent increase in demand for AI skills by 2030.
KAiLA will also be embedded into UniKL’s soon-to-be-launched Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Technology (Hons.), equipping students with hands-on, real-world skills to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
