Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) proudly celebrated 28 high-achieving athletes who brought home medals and victories at both university and national levels.
During the Majlis Penghargaan Atlet Berpencapaian Tinggi UniKL 2024 on December 19, UniKL President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports.
“For 2024, UniKL has sent numerous athletes to compete at the highest levels in events organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT). UniKL athletes have achieved remarkable successes, including the UniKL Men’s Futsal Team winning the KPT Premier Futsal League 2024,” he stated.
He further acknowledged individual and team accomplishments, including Ruveshwaran Balachandran’s stellar performance, earning a Gold and Bronze medal at the Varsity Track & Field 2024 and a Silver medal at Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (SUKIPT) 2024.
UniKL also witnessed more success at the SUKIPT 2024, securing 2 Silver medals in Individual Golf and Archery, alongside 4 Bronze medals in Pencak Silat (2 events), Team Golf, and Taekwondo.
The UniKL Taekwondo Team clinched the overall champions title at the IPT & Open UPSI Invitational Taekwondo Championship 2024.
“With these achievements, I am confident that UniKL will continue to establish itself as a respected institution in the sports arena,” Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman added.
The event aimed to honour the athletes who have elevated UniKL’s reputation, placing it on par with other esteemed higher education institutions in Malaysia.
As a token of appreciation, UniKL introduced enhanced victory incentives in 2024, with Gold medalists receiving RM550.00, Silver medalists RM400.00, and Bronze medalists RM300.00.
“It is hoped that this increase will inspire our athletes to strive harder in every competition. Insya-Allah, these incentives will be further increased in the future to ensure even greater success,” Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman remarked.
