Mould growth in buildings is more than just an aesthetic issue. It poses significant health risks and can compromise structural integrity if left unchecked.
Addressing this growing concern, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) successfully organised the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Seminar & Workshop 2025, focusing on practical solutions to mould problems caused by surface condensation.
The one-day seminar, held at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre (BACC), brought together 30 professionals from healthcare, architecture, engineering, and facilities management.
The programme highlighted the direct link between indoor air quality and mould proliferation, emphasising effective strategies for identifying root causes, implementing mitigation measures, and enhancing overall building maintenance to ensure healthier environments.

Expert speakers, including Ir. Dr. Khairul Azmy Kamaluddin, Ir. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Imran Abdullah, and Ir. Ts. Mohd Hisam Sa’at, shared their insights on mould risk assessment, IAQ management, and guidelines from the Ministry of Health on fungus avoidance.
Their sessions offered participants a comprehensive understanding of both the science of mould and practical approaches to control it.
Interactive group exercises and case studies allowed attendees to collaboratively tackle real-world building challenges, fostering knowledge exchange and hands-on problem-solving.
The seminar concluded with a panel Q&A session and an award for the Best Group Presentation, recognising innovative solutions and teamwork.
The IAQ Seminar & Workshop 2025 not only raised awareness of the risks of mould and surface condensation but also reinforced UniKL RCMP’s commitment to professional development and to promoting healthier built environments through education and industry collaboration.
