Despite controlling play for most of the early round match, UniKL FC ended up losing to UPNM FC on Wednesday (8 June 2022) morning at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT)’s turf field with a 2-1 score.
UniKL FC started aggressively in the first half through Agilan Sevalinggam’s penalty kick in the 42nd minute that earned the football team the lead.
However, UPNM FC’s Muhammad Hadi Mohamad did a clean look to head the ball into the goal, drawing the first half game by a margin of 1-1.
The earlier lead by UniKL FC turned precarious as the match entered the 44th minute with the team continuing the match defensively, absorbing attack after attack.
Heading into the second half, UniKL missed several good chances before the end game to score a second.
UPNM FC’s players, meanwhile, patiently waited for their chances to score a second goal and capitalising on the rival squad’s mistakes.
This defeat eliminates UniKL FC’s chances of making a spot in the Piala Menteri Pengajian Tinggi.
This match should be redemption for UniKL FC after finishing 3-0 lost to UPSI two days ago. For the record, UniKL FC, UPSI and UPNM FC are in Group D to win the championship.
