A delegation of 31 students from the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) participated in a meaningful cultural immersion experience in Ban Tammalang Village, Satun, Thailand.
Through the Global Community Services Breakthrough programme, they gained more than just international exposure, finding new ‘aunts’ and ‘uncles’ along the way.
From 3 to 5 January 2026, the students were placed with local host families, offering a rare opportunity to experience daily life in southern Thailand firsthand.
Despite the brief duration, the students also led impactful community initiatives, including ‘gotong-royong’ environmental clean-up activities and interactive English workshops for local children.
Beyond community engagement, the programme broadened the students’ professional perspectives through an educational visit to the Satun Provincial Commerce Office.
The session provided practical exposure to international trade dynamics and border economics, offering insights into the economic interactions between neighbouring regions.
Through this cross-cultural journey, they returned with a deeper sense of empathy and social awareness, which is aligned with UniKL’s commitment to developing globally minded and socially responsible graduates.
The programme also reflects UniKL’s broader commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by promoting inclusive participation, cross-cultural understanding, and community empowerment beyond borders.
Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives. This article particularly supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
