Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has officially joined the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP), becoming one of 25 institutions nationwide participating in this industry-academia collaboration.
The partnership was formalised through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed with UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. during the T-TEP Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ceremony held on 17 April 2025.
Representing UniKL was its President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, while UMW Toyota Motor was represented by its Executive Director, Mr. Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Dato’ Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki.
This collaboration involves UniKL students and lecturers in the field of automotive technology, with the aim of preparing students according to Toyota’s industry standards.
The initiative also includes training opportunities for UniKL lecturers through the Train the Trainers (ToT) programme at UMW Toyota premises.
In addition, UniKL will be equipped with the latest knowledge and updates on Toyota’s technologies and features, in line with UMW Toyota’s guidelines.
Since its inception in 1991, T-TEP has evolved into a robust and sustainable industry-education model.
What began with just five institutions has now expanded to include 25, each integrating Toyota’s training syllabus and benefiting from advanced tools such as hybrid and electric engine simulators.
UniKL students, particularly those from the UniKL Malaysian Spain Institute (UniKL MSI), will gain valuable exposure through access to over 100 Toyota service centres and three manufacturing plants across Malaysia.
The partnership offers meaningful internship opportunities and real-world training aligned with current industry standards and innovations.
To date, UMW Toyota has invested nearly RM20 million in the T-TEP programme, producing approximately 7,000 skilled graduates nationwide.
