UniKL and the Department of Skills Development (JPK) have reaffirmed their commitment to the Articulation Project through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), extending their partnership for five years until May 12th, 2029.
The MoU, exchanged on May 13th, 2024, was represented by UniKL’s President/Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. Azman Senin and the Director General of JPK, Ts. Zuleah Darsong, in the presence of UniKL’s Chairman, Dato’ Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali.
Building upon the Collaboration Note finalised on April 2nd, 2021, the Articulation Project facilitates the transition of graduates from Malaysia Skills Diploma (DKM) or Malaysia Advanced Skills Diploma (DLKM) programmes to related bachelor’s degree programmes at UniKL.
This initiative encompasses various activities such as evaluating entry requirements, credit transfer mapping, and recognition processes.
Dato’ Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi highlighted the project’s achievements, noting that 545 DKM/DLKM graduates had enrolled at UniKL between January 2020 and March 2024, showcasing outstanding academic performance.
“As of April 2024, the student study status shows that 26 students (5%) have graduated in 2023 and are now alumni. These are some of the students from the first intake of January 2020 who successfully completed their 3-year studies after receiving a credit transfer.
“Most of the alumni have managed to secure jobs in suitable technical fields. Next, 21 students (4%) have successfully completed their studies and will graduate in 2024. The remaining 488 students (89%) are still in the semester of study, and a small number of 10 students (2%) have postponed their studies due to certain reasons,” he said while delivering remarks.
The event also saw the presence of UniKL’s Deputy President (Academic & Technology), Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir, and Deputy President (Student Development & Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long.
This MoU encompasses coordinating the transition from vocational certificates to UniKL bachelor’s degrees, aligning National Occupation Skills Standards (NOSS) with UniKL programmes, and fostering collaboration on TVET programmes, knowledge sharing, and expertise exchange.
Additionally, it aims to explore opportunities for joint resource development to bolster the skilled workforce.
The Articulation Project, which began with Series 1 in December 2018 and expanded to Series 2 from February 2020 to November 2020, has demonstrated significant success.
Initially involving two UniKL campuses, namely UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) and UniKL Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI), it later expanded to include five campuses: UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET), UniKL Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), UniKL MIDI, and UniKL Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC).
