A digital health innovation project designed to support anti-doping compliance in sports has brought triple international recognition to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (FPHS UniKL RCMP).
The project, titled “SportsRxRef: A Mobile Application for Prohibited Drug Reference in Sports,” is led by a dedicated research team from FPHS UniKL RCMP.
At the 18th International Invention and Innovation Show (INTARG) 2025 held in Poland, the team secured a gold medal for their innovative work.
In addition, they were honoured with two prestigious international special awards which are the Excellence in Innovation Award from the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT), Romania, and the Canadian Special Award of Excellence by the Innovation and Initiative Co-operative Inc., The Inventors Circle (Toronto, Canada).
The award-winning team comprises two undergraduate pharmacy students and academic staff from FPHS UniKL.
These accolades underscore the project’s societal relevance and its strong potential to uphold athlete integrity in the world of competitive sports.
The success of SportsRxRef was made possible through the support of the Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (ADAMAS), along with collaborative efforts from the Perak State Sports Council (MSN Perak) and the Indonesian Anti-Doping Organization (IADO).
To ensure the app’s usability and effectiveness, the team conducted comprehensive quantitative and qualitative research involving athletes, coaches, and medical personnel.
The project was further supported by a grant of RM20,000 under the MARA Innovation Research Fund (Dana Penyelidikan Inovasi MARA) 2024.
Their success was further acknowledged during the Naratif Eksklusif Ketua Pengarah MARA 2025, where they were presented with a medal and a certificate of appreciation by the Director-General of MARA, YBhg. Dato’ Zulfikri Osman.
