Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH) strengthened the connection between occupational safety and health (OSH), sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices through the Conference on Occupational Safety, Health & Sustainability (COSHS) 2026.
Organised in collaboration with OMK Consultant Sdn. Bhd., the conference was held on 22 and 23 September 2026 at Bangi Resort Hotel under the theme “Advancing OSH for Sustainable Development.”
COSHS 2026 brought together academics, industry professionals and regulatory representatives to examine how occupational safety and health can move beyond conventional compliance and become an integral part of sustainable organisational development.

The conference provided a platform for knowledge sharing and professional engagement while exploring practical ways to translate sustainability and ESG principles into workplace safety strategies, organisational practices and corporate reporting.
Key discussions covered the integration of OSH with ESG principles, the use of OSH metrics in implementing ESG programmes, and the incorporation of occupational safety and health indicators into corporate ESG reporting.
Other sessions explored circular economy practices for sustainable industries, particularly within the oil and gas sector, as well as the integration of process safety into ESG strategies for high-risk industries.
The conference also highlighted sustainable safety leadership and the importance of stronger regulatory frameworks in building safer, more resilient and responsible organisations.
Among the speakers were Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Dzeti Farhah Mohshim from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS; Ahmad Nazmi Mohamed Ali, Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) at TRX City; and Wan Ahmad Jaziila Wan Hassan from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Ir. Mohammad Fadzil Abdul Manap, Director of the Chemical Management Division, Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia.
In his address, he highlighted the importance of Malaysia’s Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan 2026–2030 (OSHMP30) as a strategic framework for strengthening occupational safety and health nationwide.
The framework’s emphasis on advancing OSH practices, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, cultivating a stronger safety culture and responding to emerging workplace challenges closely reflected the objectives of COSHS 2026.
His remarks also reinforced the growing need for occupational safety and health to evolve from a compliance-focused function into a strategic component of sustainability, organisational resilience and responsible development.

For UniKL MESTECH, COSHS 2026 further strengthened its engagement with industry, regulators and OSH professionals while reinforcing the university’s role in connecting academic expertise with real-world industry needs.
COSHS 2026 supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being through the promotion of safer and healthier workplaces.
It also contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by strengthening occupational safety and decent working environments; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through sustainable industry practices; SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through discussions on circular economy approaches; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among universities, industry professionals, regulators and private-sector organisations.
