Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), through its Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), secured six Letters of Intent (LoIs) during the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2024.
These agreements span various areas, including sustainability, research, and talent development, reinforcing UniKL MIAT’s role in the aviation and aerospace sectors.
The first LoI was exchanged during the opening ceremony on the first day of SAS 2024 between UniKL, the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia), and Volar Air Mobility.
The signing took place in the presence of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, and the Chairman of the Selangor State’s Investment, Trade, and Mobility Committee, YB Tuan Ng Sze Han.
On the following day, a second LoI with NAICO was sealed, focusing on joint research, technical consultancy, and aerospace projects.
The collaborations aim to organise symposia, publish joint research, and engage students in cutting-edge aerospace research, with a particular emphasis on creating a green aviation ecosystem in Malaysia through sustainable technologies and innovations.
Meanwhile, four additional LoIs were formalised with Base Maintenance Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (BMM), the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF), Maz Gerbang Sdn Bhd (MAZG), and CTRM Testing Laboratory Sdn. Bhd.
The partnership with BMM will explore opportunities in aircraft maintenance, provide industrial training placements, and develop employability programmes for UniKL MIAT’s PART-66 students.
The collaboration will also focus on sharing best practices in training and optimising facility usage.
The LoI with MSAF is centred on providing student internships, promoting research and development (R&D) in sport aviation technologies, and organising joint events such as air shows and workshops on aviation safety and regulations.
The agreement with MAZG aims to strengthen cooperation in offering student internships, conducting joint research, and facilitating industry-academia workshops, as well as delivering technical training and certification programmes.
Lastly, the collaboration with CTRM Testing Laboratory will provide students with internships and aerospace testing opportunities, along with professional-level Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) training and global job placements.
Commenting on the partnerships, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin, President/CEO of UniKL, stated, “These partnerships are pivotal in enhancing UniKL MIAT’s role in developing a highly skilled talent pool for Malaysia’s aviation and aerospace sectors.
“Through these collaborations, we are equipping our students with invaluable hands-on industry experience, fostering innovation, and building expertise in the field.”
