Successful individuals often say failure is not the end but a stepping stone to greater success.
For Ahmad Razuri Roseli, the director of Malaysia’s celebrated new animated film, Dongeng Sang Kancil, perseverance was his greatest asset.
Reflecting on his journey, Ahmad candidly shared that he was not the best student during his academic years, but his determination propelled him forward.
“Failing the first time was a wake-up call to try again. If you fail a second time, then try a third time. And if that does not work, change your approach, but never lose sight of your goal.
“In animation, technology evolves rapidly, and adaptability is key,” said Ahmad Razuri during an exclusive screening of Dongeng Sang Kancil with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) on January 9.
Ahmad Razuri, an alumnus of UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT), credited his resilience and willingness to learn as the foundation of his success.
The screening event was graced by notable attendees, including Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd’s founder, Haji Burhanuddin Md Radzi; UniKL President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin; and UniKL MIIT Dean, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen.

Ahmad Razuri’s journey with Les’ Copaque began 17 years ago when he completed his industrial training at the company while pursuing his Diploma in Animation at UniKL MIIT.
Since then, his career has flourished, leading him to his current role as creative director.
“The most valuable commodity is trust, and another is the opportunity to showcase my work.
Alhamdulillah, Les’ Copaque has consistently provided me with both – the resources, time, and freedom to explore my creativity,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of Dongeng Sang Kancil, Haji Burhanuddin emphasised that the film is a testament to Malaysia’s local talent and expertise.
“Produced entirely by Malaysian animators, this film is a groundbreaking achievement. It incorporates a hybrid of 2D special effects and 3D technology, a first for any local animation studio,” he said.
Previously, the Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also expressed confidence in the film’s potential to leave a mark on the international stage.
Premiering nationwide on December 26, Dongeng Sang Kancil has already captured audiences’ hearts, earning RM1.5 million in box office sales on its opening day.
