Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) continues to strengthen Malaysia–South Korea relations through a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia, His Excellency Yeo Seung-bae.
The visit reflects the enduring trust built over 40 years under the Look East Policy, which continues to shape strong bilateral cooperation in education, technology, and industry.
Held on 31 March 2026, the visit also included a special lecture titled “Building a Shared Future in Korea–Malaysia Relations,” delivered by His Excellency.

In his address, he highlighted how the two nations’ complementary economic structures create strong opportunities for collaboration in technology and industry.
He noted that South Korea brings advanced technology, strong research and development capabilities, as well as innovation in defence. The country ranks among the top four globally in patent filings and is also placed within the top four of the Global Innovation Index.
Malaysia, on the other hand, offers a young, diverse, and English-speaking workforce. Its strategic location, institutional stability, and access to the ASEAN market further enhance its attractiveness as a collaborative partner.
During the visit, His Excellency also toured UniKL MIIT’s Knowledge, Artificial Intelligence, Learning and Automation (KAiLA) Lab, where he was introduced to the institute’s advancements in AI and emerging technologies.

The programme was further enriched with sharing sessions by Alumni Graduan Institusi Korea (AGIKO) and the Korea Education Centre Malaysia (KEC), offering insights into studying and working in Korea, as well as opportunities under the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS).
His Excellency was accompanied by Second Secretaries Ms. Jung Hyun-Ah and Mr. Kim Sang-Beom.
Also present were the President and Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin; Deputy President (International, Industrial and Institutional Partnership), Prof. Ir. Dr. Azmi Hassan; Dean of UniKL MIIT, Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen; Director of the Korea Education Centre Malaysia, Mr. Choi Jihoon; and President of Alumni Graduan Institusi Korea Kebangsaan (AGIKO), Mr. Zamri Abbas.

UniKL MIIT has long been committed to strengthening academic cooperation with Korean institutions.
Through the establishment of the Malaysia–Korea Centre (MKC), previously known as the Korea Education Centre (KEC), the institute continues to serve as a platform for academic collaboration, Korean language education, and initiatives that support Malaysia–Korea engagement.

In addition, UniKL MIIT actively supports initiatives that promote the Korean language, culture, and academic collaboration, including its recognition as the King Sejong Institute Kuala Lumpur and partnerships with Korean universities and institutions.
It also offers a 3+2 Transfer Degree Programme, enabling students to complete three years of diploma studies at UniKL before transferring to partner universities in Korea to complete the remaining two years of their degree.
Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives. This article particularly supports SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
