For the first time, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has been entrusted with the responsibility of hosting an international research training programme, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) ProGrant Multiplication Training 2022.

A total of 21 participants from numerous Malaysian universities with the most promising proposals have been selected to take part in phases 1 through phase 3 of the programme.

UniKL is one of the chosen universities that work closely with DAAD and the University of Cologne to organise this significant programme.

It is also jointly coordinated by the German Rectors’ Conference and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ).

In celebration of the programme’s conclusion yesterday, four researchers from UniKL were honoured with the ProGrant certificate, assuring them an easier application for research funding going forward.

As UniKL progresses towards empowering academic excellence, its Covering Deputy President (Academic &Technology) and Director of Centre for Research & Innovation (CoRI), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Khairil Rahmat encouraged the participants to collaborate with this university’s researchers in their upcoming research projects.

“Workshops on grant proposal writing for early-career PhD holders are uncommon in Malaysia. As a result, the competition is strong for research funding, with less than 20% of the success rate for national grants.

“I hope this training has performed as a valuable platform that has enabled the trainer team to provide an enriching experience to all participants,” he said during his closing speech yesterday.

The goal of this training programme is to train early career researchers to develop a promising grant proposal for national or international funding.

Every participant will have the opportunity to tailor their application to the funding institution of their choice.

Using a blended learning approach, the training programme is structured in three phases, which began in June and ended on 29 September 2022.
