The headwater phenomenon and flash floods that hit Baling, Kedah early last week fueled three Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) northern campuses and two other of its campuses to join forces channelling aid to the victims.
These campuses were UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET), UniKL Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), UniKL British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI), and UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical & Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET).
On the 6th and 7th of July, over 50 students and approximately 10 staff pulled together in Kampung Hangus and Kampung Pisang, Baling, to carry out clean-up work and give donations in the form of necessities to the victims.
They helped scour the mud inside the house, dispose of the rubbish outside, and levelling the yard’s ground.
Under UniKL Care’s exertion, a total of RM1,022 was successfully collected among UniKL staff and outsiders – which was handed over to the victims on the first day of the relief mission in Kampung Hangus, led by UniKL MSI.
Contributions were channelled into basic food items, including rice.
Previously, media reported that waves of muddy water and fallen trees swept down the victim’s houses and are believed to have been completely destroyed.
It was described as the worst flood incident ever to hit the district.
