What began as a simple interest in mathematics, physics and electricity eventually led Amar Hazim Anuari, 29, to an unexpected destination — working in Saudi Arabia as a helicopter avionics specialist.
The Selangor-born technician currently serves as a Senior Technician 1 (Avionic Expert) for the H125 helicopter, after building more than eight years of experience in the aviation industry through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) pathway.
A graduate of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT), Amar Hazim said his decision to pursue avionics came shortly after completing his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 2014, following encouragement from family members and his own research into career opportunities in the aviation sector.
After finishing school, he shared with his parents his interest in science-related subjects, particularly mathematics, physics and electrical studies.
“My uncle was the one who first suggested that I explore this field,” he recalled.
“At the time, I knew very little about avionics. But after doing some research, I decided to give it a try. I only began to fully understand the direction of this career once I entered the industry, especially during my industrial training,” he said.
Amar Hazim pursued his diploma at UniKL MIAT from 2015 to 2017 before continuing his bachelor’s degree from 2018 to 2020.
During the same period, he also worked towards obtaining a professional avionics licence — a demanding process that required strong discipline and considerable time commitment.
He admitted that the five-year academic journey was far from easy, particularly as his initial interest in the field was still developing.
His inspiring journey and career achievements were recently featured in Harian Metro. Read the full story here.
