Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) showcased an outstanding performance at the WorldSkills Malaysia University Challenge (WSMUC) 2024, clinching five medals across various categories.
Held in September, the competition saw participation from 94 competitors across nine skill areas, emphasising the growing importance of technical expertise and innovation.
Leading the achievements, Nur Iffah Alia Mohd Nazri from UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) won the gold medal in the Health and Social Care category, earning RM1,000 and a certificate of excellence.
Silver medals were awarded to three UniKL teams: Muhammad Na’im Md Affindi from UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) in the Mobile Applications Design Challenge, Wan Muhammad Aqil Wan Nasrudin from UniKL Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) in Aircraft Maintenance Technology, and Adam Ahmad Faisal with Amir Hakim Ahmad from UniKL Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI) in Rail Vehicle Technology.
Each silver medalist was awarded RM700 along with a certificate.
Meanwhile, the bronze medal in the Rail Vehicle Technology category went to Muhammad Nazif Za’im and Izzah Maisarah Nor Azhari, who received RM500 and certificates in recognition of their efforts.
The medals were presented during the Majlis Anugerah Tangan Emas Perdana Menteri (ATEPM) & Anugerah Tokoh Mahir (ATM) 2024. The awards were conferred by YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.
WSMUC 2024 marked its third edition, with UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) serving as the event’s organiser in collaboration with the Department of Skills Development under the Ministry of Human Resources.
This year’s competition featured nine skill categories: Computer Aided Design, Mobile Software Development, Aircraft Maintenance, Health and Social Care, Logistics and Freight Forwarding, Chemical Laboratory Technology, Cyber Security, Industrial Design Technology, and Rail Vehicle Technology.
Looking ahead, WSMUC plans to expand its scope in the 2025-2026 editions by introducing four additional skill categories, further enhancing its mission to nurture and develop a diverse range of technical talents in Malaysia.
