A team from Kota Tinggi Science High School (SAKTI) has won a Silver medal at the prestigious 9th Korea International Youth Olympiad “KIYO 4I” 2024, held at Sejong University Convention Center in Seoul, South Korea, from August 7th to 9th.
Their innovative project, The Time Machine: English Educational Games, earned them the award in the High School & University Category for Best of the Best Invention.
This achievement was made possible with the support and mentorship of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and its industry partner, Kong Inc.
The project focused on an innovative approach to language learning, captivating the judges and demonstrating the potential of educational games to enhance students’ English proficiency.
The team, comprising Iris Sumayyah Saiful Rizal, Haifa Yasmin Amirul Haffiz, Umairah Izz Zayani Mohd Yusri, and Nuralisha Nuha Azizul @ Joy, was guided by their dedicated teacher, Dr. Mazlena binti Murshed.
They received mentorship from Ts. Dr. Izanoordina Ahmad of UniKL’s IERL Research Cluster, who played a crucial role in refining their concept.
Additionally, Mr. Khairul Anuar Ariff from Kong Inc. contributed practical insights that helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world applications.
Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Azman Ismail, an intellectual property (IP) consultant from UniKL, provided expert advice on IP management, ensuring the student’s work was protected and properly recognised.
The mentoring process began around five months ago, during which UniKL helped to polish the idea, review the prototype, and guide the team through the intellectual property application process.
