UniKL Resources Sdn Bhd (URSB), the commercial arm of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), has successfully secured yet another significant refit project for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Fast Combat Boat (FCB) 90 HEX 001.
This new milestone reflects URSB’s commitment to supporting the nation’s defence sector and enhancing Malaysia’s maritime capabilities.
The Fast Combat Boat (FCB) 90 HEX 001 was recently handed over to the shipyard at UniKL Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET), an institute within UniKL specialising in maritime engineering and technology.

This collaboration is part of a broader initiative to utilise academic expertise and advanced facilities for the benefit of the RMN and to contribute to the growth of the Malaysian maritime industry.
The refit project is expected to be completed by May 9, 2025, and will involve various stages of repair, upgrading, and maintenance of the vessel to ensure it meets the latest operational standards.
Aside from the technical work, a total of 193 students will benefit from this initiative, which offers practical training in real-world maritime projects, preparing them for careers in the maritime and defence sectors.

For the record, the scope of work for this project encompasses several key areas, which include general guidance and administration, along with specialized work in the following groups: Hull and Superstructure, Propulsion, Electrical, Navigation, Communication, Auxiliary and Domestic systems, CBRNDC and Life Saving systems, Machinery and Miscellaneous equipment, and Modification works.
UniKL MIMET, with its state-of-the-art facilities and shipyard, has a long-standing track record of being entrusted with boat refit projects of various complexities.

This reputation for excellence underscores the institute’s growing role in the maritime sector and highlights its capacity to deliver quality outcomes in collaboration with the RMN and other defence partners.
