Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s (UniKL) 22nd Convocation Ceremony witnessed a historic moment as 25 graduates from the first batch of the Diploma in Engineering Technology (Railway System) received their scrolls.
They are among the pioneer talent pool who will help meet the growing demand for railway system expertise in line with Malaysia’s expanding rail development.
One of the graduates, Muhamad Hazim Maslan, expressed his gratitude for graduating on track and shared that he is now pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Railway System) at UniKL Malaysia Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI).
“This programme is still quite new, and being part of the pioneer group, I feel that, in a way, we can help guide our juniors to continue their studies in this field.
“My experience interning with a major railway company gave me a great opportunity. I was placed at ECRL, which is one of the largest rail projects in Malaysia.
“Being involved in that project made me proud and grateful to gain hands-on experience working with CCCC ECRL,” he said.
The diploma programme adopts the ‘2U1i’ concept, which is two years of study at UniKL MIDI and one year of industrial training.
It allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge directly in the field.
Another graduate, Nurul Afifah Nasuha Mohd Zaki, said the programme is a specialised course focusing on railway systems.
“We study the technical and specific aspects of the railway industry, not just general engineering. So when we enter the field, we already understand the deeper workings of the railway system.
“That gives us an advantage and practical knowledge to apply in the industry later on,” she said.
