Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Medical Science Technology (UniKL MESTECH) and the Medical Assistant (MA) Board, Ministry of Health (MoH), are exploring avenues for academic development and professional training for medical assistants.
This initiative follows an engagement session between both institutions on 26 March 2025. As part of the initiative, UniKL MESTECH plans to offer two post-basic programmes in the field of medical assisting: Post Basic in Nephrology Care and Post Basic in Emergency Care.
The MA Board provided valuable recommendations on curriculum development, facilities, trainer requirements, and industry needs, specifically for nephrology and emergency care.
Additionally, the discussion emphasised the importance of a well-structured curriculum that meets industry standards and equips medical assistants with the specialised skills required for these critical areas of healthcare.

Both institutions also explored current and future industry demands to ensure that graduates of these post-basic programmes are highly employable and meet the growing needs of the healthcare sector.
The session was attended by representatives from both institutions. From UniKL MESTECH, the attendees included Ts. Dr. Mohamed Zul Fadhli Khairuddin, Dean and Head of Campus; Pn. Nurul Maszleyana Abdul Wahab, Program Coordinator for the DMHS program; En. Muhammad Norzein Ab Rahim, Specialist; and En. Asrol Arifin Abu Hassan, Specialist.
Representing the Medical Assistant Board were En. Zulhelmi Abdullah, Chief Assistant Medical Officer of Malaysia; Tn. Hj. Mahadir Yunos, Deputy Chief Assistant Medical Officer; En. Wan Asrulnizan Wan Mustaffa, Chief Secretariat of the Medical Assistant Board; En. Zulfikar Mohamed Khawari, Head of the Professional Development Sector; and Tn. Hj. Khairul Hafiz Abdul Manan, Head of the Education Unit.
The session concluded with UniKL MESTECH and the MA Board reaffirming their commitment to collaboration.
Moving forward, both parties will continue exploring academic enhancements, training opportunities, and strategic partnerships to elevate the medical assistant profession to greater heights.
