Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) have formalised their collaboration by signing a Notes of Discussions (NOD) to explore joint efforts in technology, training, programmes, and projects aimed at benefiting Malaysians, especially disaster victims.
This agreement follows UniKL’s role in designing, building, and testing boats for NADMA through its Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL MIMET), enhancing disaster management capabilities in Malaysia.
The NOD was exchanged during the Konvensyen Rakan NADMA: Malaysia Madani Siaga Bencana, with UniKL Chairman YB Dato’ Sri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali and NADMA Director-General Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The partnership seeks to foster future collaborations in education, research, project management, and community engagement, along with the development of academic and professional training programs.
Both parties aim to implement innovative solutions for disaster response and recovery using technology and continue identifying areas for cooperation that can enhance national disaster preparedness.
As part of its ongoing efforts, UniKL, under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), has been actively assisting disaster victims across Malaysia.
Through its collaboration with NADMA, UniKL also equips its students with the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) module, promoting disaster management awareness and shared responsibility.
In 2024, more than 9,000 UniKL students have completed the NADMA CBDRM module.
