The experienced trainers and facilitators from the Nursing Programme Department of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) have equipped 40 participants with skills in elderly care services and professional caregiver training.
In collaboration with Sunshine Qualicare Sdn. Bhd. and sponsored by Pusat Aspirasi Anak Perak (PASAK), the βKursus Asas Penjagaan Warga Emasβ combined theoretical learning with hands-on practice, culminating in a final examination for accreditation.
According to the Advancement & Continuing Education (ACE) at UniKL RCMP, participants were introduced to key modules including: Understanding the Ageing Process and Health Issues; Personal Health and Safety Practices; Nutrition and Infection Control; Medication and Emergency Care; and Communication and Palliative Care.

Upon successful completion, participants were awarded an accredited certificate that qualifies them to pursue career opportunities as professional caregivers.
This certification enables them to work in established caregiving centres, offer services as freelance caregivers, or establish and operate their own caregiving centres.
Held on 18 April, the five-day training attracted members of the publicβall residents of Perakβand was part of a broader commitment to enhance the welfare of senior citizens through competent, compassionate, and structured caregiving.
βBeyond technical training, the programme also introduced an ecosystem platform designed to provide continuity and business opportunities for the participants, ensuring they can apply their skills in real-world settings while supporting the well-being of Malaysiaβs elderly population.β
βThe programme was developed in line with the nationβs commitment to enhance the welfare and quality of life for senior citizens, while also preparing the community for the challenges of an ageing population,β said UniKL RCMPβs ACE.
Beyond the core training, the initiative also offered participants long-term support and opportunities to deliver caregiving services, creating a positive cycle of community service and income generation.
The course concluded with an official closing ceremony, officiated by YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Yip Hung Loong, Deputy Dean (Academic), Faculty of Medicine at UniKL RCMP.
In his address, he highlighted the vital role of skilled caregivers in safeguarding the dignity, comfort, and well-being of elderly individualsβespecially as society navigates demographic shifts.
