Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) hosted 40 delegates from Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia and ACCA Malaysia on 15 January as part of the ACCA TVET Study Tour, aimed at strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) collaboration within the ASEAN region.

The delegation comprised lecturers, vice presidents and presidents of TVET institutions, as well as officials from the respective Ministries of Education.

The programme included a TVET-focused workshop and campus visits, providing a platform for UniKL to share its experience, operational practices and strategic approaches in TVET delivery, industry engagement and academic governance.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of UniKL acknowledged ACCA’s emphasis on the role of professional bodies in strengthening economic resilience, good governance and talent development across ASEAN.

“Today’s engagement reflects the strong spirit of ASEAN cooperation and our shared aspiration to strengthen TVET excellence beyond borders.

“In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to enhance regional connectivity and skills mobility within ASEAN, UniKL remains committed to producing industry-ready graduates and professionals who are prepared to meet future economic challenges,” he said during the closing remarks of the tour.

During the visit, delegates toured UniKL Business School (UniKL BIS) and UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT), where they were briefed on UniKL’s academic structure and industry-oriented learning environment.

The programme continued with an interactive workshop hosted by the Centre for Advancement and Continuing Education (ACE).

Participants were divided into discussion groups to deliberate on key TVET issues and opportunities, drawing on inputs gathered during the ACCA Public Sector Forum held on 13 January.

The discussions focused on cross-country knowledge exchange, benchmarking of institutional practices and the exploration of sustainable collaboration models among ASEAN TVET institutions.

Several members of the UniKL Management Committee (UMC) participated as facilitators and engaged with the delegates throughout the programme, including Prof. Dr. Naziruddin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eida Nadirah, Dr. Nadia Razali, Dr. Nurbani (UBIS); Ir. Allina, Dr. Suriana, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tong, Dr. Zulkifli (BMI); Prof. Dr. Nizam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaid, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aizat Faiz (ACE); and Hj. Hisshamuddin Omar.

The engagement is expected to contribute to deeper regional cooperation in TVET, support capacity building among ASEAN institutions, and strengthen UniKL’s role in regional knowledge sharing and academic collaboration.

The programme aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by promoting access to relevant, industry-driven skills development, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through cross-border institutional collaboration and regional cooperation in education and training.

Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives. This article specifically supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
