Led by its Chairman, YB Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, the visit aimed to identify the success factors behind the procurement of equipment through the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP), implemented by UniKL.
The purpose of the visit was also to assess how the equipment received has improved the learning experience for students and its significance to related industries.
During the session, he undertook a tour of the railway equipment facilities including the light rapid transit (LRT) Depoh, Trackwork System, Signalling System, Track Interlocking System and Full Scale Operation Control Centre.
Since 2013, UniKL MIDI has successfully delivered 14 ICP projects which saw the largest contribution of 4 sets of light rail vehicles to the institute in 2017.
For the record, TDA Berhad and UniKL have always strived to form a collaborative partnership to capitalise on shared benefits, such as market capabilities, promotion of innovation, cost reduction, and maximising existing strengths.
As part of the ICP, UniKL received several key pieces of equipment, including a railway coach model and a train simulator.
Following that, UniKL MIDI through Asia Rail Centre, became the first academic institute in the country to have a real-sized railway coach model to produce more homegrown talents in the industry.
Meanwhile, the train simulator was handed over to UniKL MIDI in 2020, following Prasarana’s acquisition of 30 sets of Ampang Line LRV Trains.
The train simulator replicates the Ampang Line from Cheras to Sentul, providing students in the Engineering Technology in Railway Systems programme with an invaluable learning tool.
This industrial visit provided an opportunity for TDA Berhad to witness firsthand the utilisation and impact of the ICP equipment at UniKL MIDI.
Also present during the visit were the Chief Executive Officer of TDA Berhad, Dr. Sharoul Jambari; Acting President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Azman Senin; Deputy President of UniKL (Academic & Technology), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kushsairy Abdul Kadir and Dean of UniKL MIDI, Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Zaid Abu Yazid.
