The students were among 127 who were celebrated during the UniKL-JPU Graduation Ceremony Sotsugyou Shiki 2023 on March 21st, having completed their three-year diploma studies at UniKL Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI).
At the ceremony, the newly-appointed Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Pro-Chancellor of UniKL, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki, expressed his appreciation to the Government of Japan, their authorities, and the Japanese Embassy for their unwavering support and cooperation towards the programme.
“Not forgetting our partners in Japan, Japan University Consortium for Transnational-Education (JUCTe) and all the other intuitions. My sincere gratitude to all of you.
“The close relationship we have with our Japanese counterparts in Malaysia and in Japan has ensured the success of this UniKL – JUP programme,” he said while hoping that the programme would continue to produce highly-skilled human capital for the nation’s development.
Also present at the ceremony were the First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Ms. Nagai Tomoko; Deputy Director-General (Education) of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), YBhg. En. Razlan Haji Samsuri; Group Chief Executive Officer of Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd, YBhg. Dato’ Julainie Mohd Salleh; and President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Datuk Dr Roziah Omar.
For the record, the ceremony also honoured four students with the Best Student Awards: Nur Syafiqah Khairul Fauzi for Mechanical Engineering, Nurul Afiqah Ibrahim for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Iliya Hiyama Zazuli for the Japanese Language, and Muhammad Ilham Mohd Fauzi for the Overall Programme.
Notably, UniKL-JUP was introduced to provide outstanding students with the opportunity to pursue engineering courses at Japanese universities, with the aim of producing more skilled engineers to boost Malaysia’s economy.
Administered by UniKL MFI, the programme is a continuation of the Higher Education Loan Fund Project (HELP) 1, 2, 3, and Malaysia Japan Higher Education Program (MJHEP) initiatives, which began in 1993.
Under the programme, students will earn an engineering diploma and a bachelor’s degree after five years of study, which is sponsored by MARA.
The first three years of the programme are spent studying for the diploma level at UniKL MFI, while the following two years are spent at 20 public and private universities in Japan that are part of the Japan University Group (JUG).
