Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is among four Malaysian universities set to benefit from campus@celcomdigi, a new work-based learning initiative introduced under the next phase of CelcomDigi’s flagship CD talent development programme.
Announced on 2 October 2026, the initiative positions UniKL alongside Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and HELP University as the programme’s inaugural university partners, strengthening opportunities for students to gain industry exposure while completing their studies.
The collaboration further reinforces UniKL’s emphasis on industry-integrated education, graduate employability, digital skills and future-ready talent development, particularly as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud engineering and data analytics continue to reshape the global workforce.
At the heart of the new phase is campus@celcomdigi, described as Malaysia’s first programme of its kind to systematically bridge classroom learning with workplace experience.
Under the initiative, second-year students from partner universities will have opportunities to tackle real business challenges as part of their coursework while receiving continuous mentorship from industry practitioners.
Selected final-year students will progress to industry residencies at CelcomDigi’s dedicated on-site campus at its headquarters, where they will work alongside industry teams and contribute to live projects as part of their university learning experience.
CelcomDigi aims to reach more than 300 students annually through the final-year residency programme, with plans to progressively expand the initiative to more universities.
For UniKL, participation provides another platform to connect its students with an evolving digital industry and expose them to workplace expectations before graduation.
It also complements the university’s practice-oriented approach to higher education by creating pathways where academic knowledge can be applied to authentic industry challenges.
The campus initiative forms part of the broader CD talent development ecosystem, which also includes CelcomDigi’s Young Talent Programme (YTP) and Certifications Programme.
The two-year YTP focuses on high-potential graduates through rotational assignments, mentorship and strategic business projects.
Its second cohort comprises 20 young talents working across areas including Cloud Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data and Business Analytics, Digital Product Development, and AI and Automation.
Meanwhile, the Certifications Programme expands access to industry-recognised learning in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and extended reality (XR) for university students, school students and working professionals.
Together, the programmes are designed to respond to Malaysia’s evolving digital economy and support the aspirations of the Rancangan Pendidikan Tinggi Malaysia (RPTM) 2026–2035 through stronger academia-industry collaboration and future-focused talent development.
The initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through relevant and experiential learning; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through employability and career development; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through digital and technological capability building; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strategic collaboration between universities and industry.
