Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) marked another milestone in its industry-based education journey through its participation in the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Academy Vokasional McDonald’s Malaysia at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on 18 August 2026.

Attending as an institutional higher education partner, UniKL MICET joined McDonald’s Malaysia and other industry and education partners in celebrating students who had completed their vocational and workplace training.

Through the Work-Based Learning (WBL) initiative, students from UniKL MICET’s Bachelor of Food Safety and Quality Technology (BFSQT) programme undertake a one-year industry placement as part of their studies.

At McDonald’s Malaysia, they gain direct exposure to food service operations, including food safety, quality assurance, hygiene, operational procedures and workplace practices.

To date, 144 students have graduated, with 163 Semester 5 and Semester 6 students currently undergoing WBL.

Of these WBL placements, approximately 80 to 90 percent are undertaken with McDonald’s Malaysia, making the company one of UniKL MICET’s significant industry partners for workplace learning.

Rather than limiting learning to the classroom, the WBL model places students directly within operating industry environments where food safety standards, customer expectations, quality systems and workplace procedures become part of their everyday learning experience.

Students who successfully complete their placement with McDonald’s Malaysia are also awarded the Sijil Tamat Latihan – Work-Based Learning (WBL) in recognition of completing the industry-based training programme.

The collaboration contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through experiential and industry-integrated learning; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through employability and workforce development; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through sustained collaboration between higher education and industry.
