Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), together with three other Government-Linked Universities (GLU) in Malaysia, further strengthened their cooperation with Indonesia’s Aliansi Perguruan Tinggi Badan Usaha Milik Negara (APERTI-BUMN).

The collaboration follows the successful GLU Malaysia–APERTI-BUMN Indonesia Workshop 2026, a three-day programme held from 11 to 13 January 2026 in Langkawi.

The workshop brought together top leadership from Malaysian GLUs—UniKL, Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP)—as well as six Indonesian APERTI-BUMN institutions: Universitas Pertamina, Telkom University, Institut Teknologi Perusahaan Listrik Negara (ITPLN), Universitas Internasional Semen Indonesia (UISI), Universitas Logistik dan Bisnis Internasional (ULBI), and Politeknik Semen Indonesia.

The event served as a strategic platform to strengthen bilateral networks and enhance collaboration across academics, research, student experience, and sustainability.

Discussions focused on four key areas: the development of joint academic programmes, high-impact research collaboration, enhancement of cross-border student experiences, and campus sustainability initiatives aligned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

MMU President and Chairman of GLU Malaysia, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, highlighted the significance of the partnership, as it reflects the shared commitment of both countries to building a more competitive, impactful, and sustainable regional higher education ecosystem.

The workshop also provided a platform for strategic leadership dialogue, aligning higher education directions between Malaysia and Indonesia, strengthening long-term cooperation among GLUs, and developing a more integrated framework for joint research.

As an initial outcome, both parties agreed to refine the memorandum of understanding (MoU), establish cross-functional working groups across the four main pillars, implement regular student and staff mobility programmes, and develop high-impact joint research projects.

The collaboration is expected to benefit not only the participating universities, but also industry and society, through the development of skilled talent and research aligned with current regional needs.

For UniKL, the partnership highlights the university’s commitment to excellence in education and global engagement, in line with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Note: In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) continues to strengthen and expand its efforts through various initiatives. This article particularly supports SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
