Universiti Kuala Lumpur, through its city-based campus, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UniKL MIIT) is positioned to become a key centre for Korean language and cultural learning in the Southeast Asia region.
This follows the official opening ceremony of the King Sejong Institute Kuala Lumpur at UniKL MIIT, marking an important milestone in supporting the development of Korean language education in the region.
The ceremony was officiated by UniKL Deputy President (Student Development & Campus Lifestyle), Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah Awang Long on 15 December 2025.
Also in attendance were the Honourable Mr Lee Han-il, Minister and Consul General / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, representatives from the Korean Embassy and the Korea Education Centre, as well as UniKL management, academicians, staff, and students.

In her welcoming remarks, Prof. Ts. Dr. Zalizah highlighted that the establishment of the King Sejong Institute Kuala Lumpur reflects UniKL’s commitment to strengthening academic and cultural collaboration with the Republic of Korea.
She emphasised that the institute will serve as a key platform for students and the wider community to engage in Korean language learning and cultural exchange.
For the record, UniKL MIIT’s recognition as the newest King Sejong Institute was commemorated during a formal visit by representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to UniKL MIIT on 4 July 2025.
This recognition positions UniKL MIIT as an official member of the global King Sejong Institute network, which comprises more than 200 institutions worldwide dedicated to advancing Korean language education and cultural exchange.

Operating under UniKL MIIT, the King Sejong Institute Kuala Lumpur has conducted Korean language courses and cultural programmes throughout 2025, benefiting both UniKL students and members of the public.
The institute operates in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the King Sejong Institute Foundation.
Looking ahead, UniKL aims to expand the institute’s offerings to include Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) preparation, Korean for specific purposes, expanded cultural activities, strategic partnerships with Korean universities, and industry collaboration, positioning the institute as a centre of academic and cultural excellence.
