“I do not see my adversity as a disadvantage, it is my tenacity,” said Nurdyia Ameyrah Mohd Lasim, 21, who was born with a limb difference.

Nurdyia Ameyrah’s journey has not been easy. She lost her father at the age of eight and, tragically, her mother passed away in May 2024.

Despite these devastating losses, she has always had one constant in her life: tenacity.

It was her siblings, especially her eldest brother, who stepped in to care for her after their parents were no longer around, offering unwavering support that guided her through life’s most challenging moments.

She embarked on her academic journey, enrolling in the Diploma in Industrial Logistics at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC).

On November 19, during UniKL’s 21st Convocation Ceremony, Nurdyia Ameyrah stood proud and proved that nothing could extinguish the fire within her.

Her path to UniKL was unexpected. Initially, she had never heard of the university until a teacher from her high school encouraged her to apply.

“I did not know about UniKL at first, but my teacher believed in me, so I gave it a try—and I made it,” she shared.

Throughout her time at UniKL, Nurdyia Ameyrah found more than just academic success, which is a supportive community of friends who helped her overcome every obstacle.

“There was a time when my classmates carried me up to our class on the fourth floor. Their kindness and support were overwhelming,” she recalled.

Her journey was not just about academics. Encouraged by her friends, she took a bold step outside her comfort zone and joined the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Though she was initially an introvert, Nurdyia Ameyrah pushed herself to apply, not expecting to be selected.

“The SRC during my year was amazing. It gave me the confidence to step up, to speak out, and to discover skills I never knew I had.

“It was through the SRC that I became more confident in front of others, improved my communication skills, and took part in significant events like Undi 18,” Nurdyia Ameyrah added.

Today, Nurdyia Ameyrah is pursuing a Bachelor’s in Industrial Logistics (Hons) and looking ahead, she dreams of working in the import and export industry.
