Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has rebranded its Centre for Instructional Technology and Curriculum Development (CITC) as the Centre for Innovative Digital Education and Emerging Technology (CIDEX), in response to the rapidly changing educational landscape.
The Director of CIDEX, Dr. Suriana Ismail, said that this new identity highlights the centre’s commitment to digital transformation and its leadership in driving educational innovation.
“The inclusion of ‘Innovative’ and ‘Emerging Technology’ in our centre’s name underscores our dedication to leveraging advanced tools and techniques, such as artificial intelligence (AI), data-driven teaching, and other emerging educational practices.
“We are focused on the future, ensuring that both students and educators are prepared for what lies ahead,” said Dr. Suriana.
The new identity signifies UniKL’s alignment with global educational trends, such as Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), Open Distance Learning (ODL), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Micro-Credentials (MC), flexible learning, and blended learning approaches.
By embracing a more digital focus, CIDEX is poised to lead advancements in e-learning, online education, and student-centred learning environments, she added.
CIDEX expands its scope beyond traditional instructional technology and curriculum development to include pedagogical innovation, learner analytics, and the integration of cutting-edge digital tools.
The centre also focuses on enhancing educators’ professional skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to excel in today’s technology-driven classrooms.
To strengthen its capabilities, CIDEX has established newly formed and rebranded units, each headed by experts committed to advancing UniKL’s digital and educational objectives:
- The Creative and Innovative Digital Unit (CID), led by AP. Ts. Dr. Munaisyah Abdullah, focuses on creating innovative digital content and fostering creativity.
- The Digital Education and Technology Unit (DET), led by Dr. Siti Haryani Shaikh Ali, emphasises the application of digital tools and instructional technologies in education.
- The Teaching and Learning Excellence Unit (TLE), led by Ms. Shahrizad Mohd Sharifuddin, promotes excellence in curriculum development and professional development for educators.
“The rebranding of CIDEX reflects UniKL’s dedication to staying ahead in the evolving educational landscape.
“CIDEX will continue to push the boundaries of educational innovation, developing new teaching and learning methods that align with global trends, and ensuring the university’s leadership in digital education,” she further noted.
