Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) formalised four key partnerships with industry players in sustainable energy during the “Majlis Forum Tenaga Madani: Menggerakkan Tindakan Untuk Masa Depan Sifar Bersih,” held on October 16.
These collaborations aim to promote energy efficiency and further the nation’s renewable energy goals.
The documents were exchanged in the presence of UniKL’s Chairman, Dato’ Sri Sh. Mohmed Puzi Sh. Ali, and witnessed by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Chairman, Dato’ Wira Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dato’ Dusuki.
“MARA fully supports the development of renewable energy in the country and will be a major contributor in driving the growth of the industry,” said Dato’ Wira Dr. Asyraf at a press conference following the forum, which was held at UniKL’s British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI).
As part of the agreements, UniKL signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) to provide sustainable electricity to the Indigenous community in Tasik Banding.
This involved installing solar systems at schools in Kampung Bongor, Sungai Kejar, located in the Royal Belum Forest, Perak.
Additionally, three Letters of Intent (LoIs) were exchanged with Malakoff Corporation Berhad, KevinLab (M) Sdn. Bhd., and AGC Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. These partnerships focused on areas such as energy efficiency management utilising the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud, Big Data, and smart devices, as well as the development of a Net-Zero Kiosk.
The energy forum, which brought together over 400 participants—including industry players, government agencies, entrepreneurs, and students—aligns with the government’s broader initiative to shape the future of the nation’s energy sector.
Through the first phase of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), Malaysia is targeting RM25 billion in investments and creating over 23,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector.
In line with these goals, UniKL BMI, under MARA’s guidance, is playing a pivotal role in advancing sustainable energy initiatives. The campus is home to the Sustainable Energy Living Lab, which has earned the distinction of Malaysia’s first net-zero energy building.
At the same event, MARA’s Chairman presented Job Offer Letters from GSPARX Sdn. Bhd. to nine entrepreneurs under the Prosolar programme, with a total contract value of RM8.5 million.
The Prosolar programme, launched by MARA early last year, has made impressive strides, producing 55 certified Solar Installer entrepreneurs. To date, Prosolar participants have generated nearly RM40 million in cumulative sales.
