Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has joined forces with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) in a groundbreaking collaboration with Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) to produce Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV).
The prototype, Emo-1, a pioneering Myvi conversion, is being showcased at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, held at Taman Ekspo Pertanian Malaysia (MAEPS), Serdang, Selangor, from June 21 to June 26, 2024.
In the early stages of this collaboration, UniKL, through its Malaysia France Institute (UniKL MFI) and Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI), took the lead in designing the EV’s cooling system.
The project at UniKL is spearheaded by Ir. Dr. Rifqi Irzuan Abdul Jalal, with crucial support from project member Ir. Ts. Dr. Tajul Adli Abdul Razak.
Dr. Tajul Adli highlighted that due to the commitment and expertise demonstrated, Perodua entrusted UniKL MFI and UniKL MSI to design, simulate, and fabricate the entire chassis and EV system.
This unique collaboration has seen Perodua engineers working closely with UniKL lecturers and students throughout the project.
The initiative not only aims to enhance the knowledge of Perodua engineers but also provides UniKL students with invaluable hands-on experience in the burgeoning field of EVs.
This partnership underscores the importance of academia-industry collaborations in driving innovation and developing future-ready talent in Malaysia’s automotive sector.
