Underscoring the critical role of skill development in the era of Industry 4.0 and emphasising the need for continuous learning and adaptation within the water engineering sector is essential.
This key message was delivered by Dr. Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohmad Asari Daud, President of the Malaysian Water Association (MWA), in his address on “The Imperative of Human Resource and Skills Development in Water Engineering amidst Industry 4.0.”
He spoke during a seminar co-hosted by UniKL’s Center for Water Engineering Technology (UniKL CWET) and MWA on May 13, 2024.
Organised by the Centre for Advancement & Continuing Education (UniKL ACE), the event attracted over 60 participants from diverse backgrounds, including water experts, government agencies, academia, and top management of water industries.
The seminar also showcased dynamic technology demonstrations, highlighting how Industry 4.0 technologies are transforming water engineering.
Participants engaged with advanced tools such as laser diffraction particle size analyzers, bathymetric LIDAR, autonomous unmanned aerial and surface vehicles, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, and SCADA 4.0 in water engineering applications.
Attendees gained invaluable insights from leading experts, engaged in meaningful discussions, and witnessed the transformative potential of these innovative solutions.
The event served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, fostering partnerships between academia, industry, and government agencies.
The seminar concluded on an optimistic note, with participants expressing enthusiasm for continued innovation and collaboration in sustainable water management practices.
It also underscored UniKL CWET’s commitment to advancing water engineering and technology, strengthening its standing in the field, and opening avenues for revenue generation and further collaborations.
